Mixed Identities
You’ve never felt like you fit anywhere neatly.
Maybe you relate:
You hold many different cross sections of identity and never feel like you can place yourself neatly.
In your communities, you’re not enough of one thing, and too much of the other.
You feel like you have to prove something to the people you are surrounded by.
People have made comments about how you don’t quite belong with them.
You feel like you’re always just on the outskirts of communities you belong to.
You’ve never been able to call yourself 100% of anything.
You come from families with mixed races, or blended families.
Your sexuality is unclear.
How you define your gender is unclear.
You always feel just a little out of place, or like an imposter.
What we do in session:
We make room for all the intersections of life that make you who are. We accept that people may always be determined to make you feel out of place, and that those are not your people. We explore the parts of you that you always felt the need to hide in the presence of others. We imagine what it can look like to hold all of this, in one place, one body-you and learn to embrace it.
What feeling better can look like:
You can recognize the nuance and complexities that come together to create who you are and admire that about yourself. You can finally rejoice at the thought of describing yourself. You don’t feel the need to make yourself smaller in your communities. You claim a place for yourself within the communities that you intersect or even create your own. You celebrate the fluidity that you are made of and stand with confidence.
